The Australian Freestyle Martial Arts Academy was founded by Patricia Lyons and Cassandra Mann and is overseen by Master John Gill of the Australian School of Self Defence and Grand Master Sung Soo Lee. Master John Gill holds a 5th dan in both Taekwondo and Hapkido and is seven times World self defence champion. Grandmaster Sung Soo Lee is the only man in the world to hold the rank of 9th dan with both the World Taekwondo Federation and the Korean Hapkido Federation. Both are men of integrity, courage and vision and which martial artists worldwide hold in high regard.
AFMAA is a registered associate member of Taekwondo Australia.

The Australian Freestyle Martial Arts Academy
programs include:
Adult's Martial Arts Classes
Based on Taekwondo and incorporating Hapkido, Karate, Boxing and Kickboxing, adult martial arts classes are dynamic and cater for beginner to advanced levels. Classes rotate around the principals of self defence with a perfect balance of basics, patterns, sparring, fitness and calisthenics. Senior ranks have the option to participate in board and tile breaking and the hanbo. Two instructors and small class sizes allow for personal instruction in fun, motivating and powerful sessions.
Children's Martial Arts Classes
Your child will gain the skills of self defence while improving fitness, motor skills,
coordination and confidence. Through retaining traditional Korean morals and philosophy
but also recognising the world is a much different place, an emphasis is put on self
defence and personal development rather than competition. Classes Incorporate a structure
of fun, fitness and flexibility in a safe and controlled environment. Social skills
will also be developed through respect for others, cooperation and discipline. All
training is weapon-
Kick Chicks Cardio Kickboxing Classes
Kickboxing combines elements of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics to provide overall physical conditioning and toning. You can burn anywhere from 350 to 450 calories an hour with Kickboxing. Sparring and physical contact between students is optional. Movements such as knee strikes, kicks, punches and elbow strikes are taught. The instructor will also use equipment like punching bags, impact shields and focus mitts. Besides keeping your body fit, Kickboxing has other great benefits such as reducing or relieving stress. It can also help to improve balance, flexibility and coordination. Kickboxing is a great way to get a total body workout while learning simple self defence moves. Current students say weekly training helps them to feel more empowered and confident.
Women's Self Defence Classes
AFMAA classes cater for women from beginners to those with an advanced knowledge of personal defence and for women of all ages and fitness levels. You will learn the essential skills to defend yourself if threatened with a physical or sexual assault. The methods taught are easy to learn and have proven to be very effective.
